    Highlights from the match

Arsenal delivered a commanding performance at the Emirates Stadium, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final. Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka secured the victory, putting the Gunners in a strong position ahead of the return leg in Paris.

    Early Dominance Sets the Tone

From the outset, Arsenal imposed their aggressive pressing game, disrupting PSG's build-up play and asserting control over the midfield. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Leandro Trossard's precise cross found Havertz, who headed past Gianluigi Donnarumma to open the scoring.

Arsenal doubled their lead in the 35th minute through a Saka free-kick that bypassed everyone in the box, catching Donnarumma off guard as the ball nestled into the net.

    PSG's Struggles and Arsenal's Control

PSG, missing key players and with Ousmane Dembélé omitted for disciplinary reasons, struggled to cope with Arsenal's intensity. Nuno Mendes provided a rare threat, hitting the post in the first half, while João Neves struck the bar from a corner in the second half.

Despite these efforts, PSG's overall performance lacked cohesion, and their inability to handle Arsenal's pressing game was evident. Luis Enrique acknowledged his team's shortcomings, stating, "Arsenal were much better in terms of pressure, intensity; they won every duel".

    Arsenal's Tactical Mastery

Mikel Arteta's tactical approach was instrumental in the victory. The team's pressing strategy effectively neutralized PSG's midfield, with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey dominating the central areas. Arsenal's defensive solidity was also notable, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães forming a formidable partnership at the back.

Arteta's decision to introduce Mikel Merino in the second half provided additional control in midfield, allowing Arsenal to manage the game's tempo and maintain their lead.

    Looking Ahead

With a two-goal advantage, Arsenal will travel to Paris for the second leg with confidence. However, they will be aware of PSG's potential to respond, especially with the possibility of Dembélé returning to the lineup. Arteta emphasized the need for focus, stating, "We have to prepare well for the second leg; nothing is decided yet."

The second leg promises to be a compelling encounter as Arsenal aim to reach their first Champions League final since 2006, while PSG seek to overturn the deficit and keep their European ambitions alive.
