Barcelona pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat Atletico Madrid 4-2 in the Spanish capital on Sunday, securing a crucial victory in the LaLiga title race. Despite falling 2-0 behind, Hansi Flick’s side rallied through goals from Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal to claim all three points.
First Half
Barcelona dominated possession in the opening 45 minutes but found it difficult to break down a resilient and well-organized Atletico Madrid defense.
Lamine Yamal came close to opening the scoring just five minutes in, firing a left-footed shot that skimmed the outside of Jan Oblak’s post. Later in the half, Robert Lewandowski nearly put Barcelona ahead, but his effort, set up by Pedri, clipped the crossbar on its way over.
Atletico punished Barcelona’s missed chances just before the break. A long clearance from Oblak was flicked on, allowing Giuliano Simeone to find Julian Alvarez, who powered a shot past Wojciech Szczęsny to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Second Half
Barcelona started the second half brightly, with Yamal again going close, but Atletico remained dangerous on the counter. Jules Kounde had to intervene to stop Julian Alvarez from adding a second after a quick break.
Struggling to break through, Flick made tactical changes, bringing on Eric Garcia and Ferran Torres for Marc Casado and Dani Olmo. However, Atletico struck again before Barcelona’s adjustments could take effect. Antoine Griezmann set up Alexander Sorloth, who slotted home to make it 2-0.
The setback sparked an instant response from Barcelona. Lewandowski fired a low shot past Oblak to halve the deficit and inject belief into the team. Just five minutes later, Raphinha delivered a superb cross, which Ferran Torres expertly glanced into the net to equalize.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Yamal produced a moment of magic deep into stoppage time. The teenage sensation struck a brilliant goal to put Barcelona ahead, triggering wild celebrations. Moments later, Ferran Torres sealed the victory with a precise low finish, ensuring Barcelona reclaimed the top spot heading into the international break.
A stunning performance and a statement win for Flick’s side.
